True Food Kitchen remains one of my go-to restaurants located right off the Santa Monica beach. The beach area is very touristy and I haven’t food another restaurant within walking distance that can cater to celiac disease. This means I go to True Food Kitchen A LOT—anytime a friend is here from out of town, anytime I go to the beach, etc. etc. They do take reservations, which I highly recommend, as True Food is popular and can get very busy.
True Food Kitchen is wonderful because it caters to many food allergies and preferences. Not only do they have a bunch of gluten free options, but they also have vegan and vegetarian options. Their menu is clearly marked for what is gluten free and the options also changes frequently to accommodate local produce that is in the area. I love that! The staff is very knowledgable about celiac disease and has always been happy to ensure that my meal is prepped away from gluten safely.
I have ordered most of the (gluten free) menu. I have tried the Korean Noodle–a seasonal vegan option featuring sweet potato glass noodle, pickled shiitake, organic spinach, heirloom carrot, bean sprouts, and toasted sesame. I have also tried the Inside Out Quinoa Burger— a vegetarian option featuring a quinoa burger with hummus, tzatziki, tomato, lettuce, cucumber, red onion, avocado, feta. I also enjoyed the Grass-fed Steak Tacos & the Spaghetti Squash Casserole. My favorite has been the Teriyaki Quinoa (with added steak)–broccoli, heirloom carrot, bok choy, mushroom, brown rice, quinoa, avocado, and toasted sesame. The flavors are wonderful and I have always been happy with my options.
The only downside is that the portions are pretty tiny. On the upside, you will have room for dessert and the flourless chocolate cake with vegan ice cream is a must have!
True Food Kitchen is located all over the country and I definitely recommend it if you are in the mood for a delicious meal–I mean, who isn’t??? If you are at Santa Monica beach, this would be a great lunch spot!
