I’ve been dying to try Fatamorgana Gelato for months now. What’s so special about Fatamorgana? It is dedicated 100% gluten free—all flavors, toppings, and cones. This is big for me because gelato (or ice cream) can easily be cross contaminated with gluten due to shared scoopers or gluten cones. Unless the staff is really trained and takes extra special precautions (and some do!!), it can be difficult to enjoy gelato. Fatamorgana offers the ability of celiac customers to enjoy every flavor, every topping, everything because it’s all gluten free. With its only current US location being in Studio City, CA, it was a bit of a drive from LA city where I live–luckily for me, they are opening a 2nd location in Beverly Hills! But after hiking the Hollywood sign trail and grabbing dinner in Burbank, we happily discovered that we were SO close to Fatamorgana and so naturally we stopped by for a tasty dessert.
I was blown away by the number of flavors and even cone options! Want a waffle bowl? They have it. Want a waffle cone? They have it. Want a sugar cone? They have it. Want a vegan cone? They have it. Are you sensing a pattern here…..? SO MANY OPTIONS.
One thing that I loved about Fatamorgana was the clear allergen labeling right on the flavor labels–such an inclusive environment. They also do not use dextrose, extracts, or carob gum, if those are ingredients you avoid.
There were so many different flavors to choose from–to be honest, I have never seen so many unique flavors in my life. 3 FULL CASES OF GLUTEN FREE GELATO. Chocolate lovers rejoice: There were 10 (!!!) different types of chocolate: Venezuela chocolate, Wasabi Chocolate, Chocolate & Orange, Espresso Chocolate, Chocolate Fructuose, Souchong Chocolate, Hazelnut & Chocolate, and Pimento Chocolate. One interesting flavor was called “Corn and Popcorn.” Another had cake in it. There were some flavors with fresh fruit. I can’t even begin to describe the flavors. I have never felt so limitless in my options.
My husband and I both taste tested three flavors of gelato. If it wasn’t as busy, we would have tried more because man of the flavors we had never even heard of and were curious to try. I loved the creamy texture and rich flavors of every type I tried. I settled on the vegan cone and it was wonderful. It held the gelato well without getting too soft.
I definitely plan to return to Fatamorgana whenever I am in the Studio City area and I am very excited for them to open a storefront in Beverly Hills. If you have celiac or gluten intolerance or a wheat allergy, Fatamorgona may be the perfect gluten free treat for you. Kudos to Fatamorgana for such a delicious variety of gluten free gelato!! ❤
