Review of Gluten Free at True Earth Vegan (Los Angeles, CA)

I’ve been eating my way through Los Angeles since moving out here. Most of the time I find restaurants based on location—really wherever I have plans I try to find somewhere I can eat nearby. This time I was meeting my husband (yes, he is my husband now!!) for a happy hour work in North Hollywood. We were planning to get dinner afterwards closer to where we lived, but as I vastly overestimated the amount of time it would take for me to get to NoHo, I was left wandering around North Hollywood. I really felt uncomfortable after two guys kept catcalling me on the street (NOT okay to do!) so I ducked into the nearest cafe to wait safely. And this is how I stumbled upon True Earth Vegan.

What I thought would be me buying a snack to get for my husband to eat later as an excuse  to sit inside turned into a wonderful celiac friendly establishment! True Earth Vegan (located at 11044 W Magnolia Blvd, North Hollywood, CA) is entirely gluten free and vegan. It’s an absolutely adorable cafe with meal, snack, drink, and dessert options.

Knowing we were going to eat dinner in a few hours, I opted for a cup of garlic gluten free vegan mac and cheese and vegan chocolate & peanut butter truffle balls. My goodness, I was not disappointed. I ate them so quickly I forgot to take photos (sorry!). The garlic gluten free vegan mac & cheese uses cashews for the sauce and despite my hatred of nuts, I LOVED it. The sauce was rich and flavorful and didn’t taste like fake cheese. It was creamy and delicious. The garlic was a very nice touch too.

I was really interested in the falafel (I’ve never tried falafel) and zucchini pasta with pesto, but knew that those items would be too heavy right before dinner. They also have kelp noodles, salads, soups galore, fruit bowls, and coffee/juices. I found it super adorable that they have land & sea options–incorporating kelp and other vegan options to make classic dishes.

I had the pleasure of meeting the owner while I was eating. She was incredibly nice and really knew how to seamlessly combine gluten free and vegan safely. Dairy free? Egg free? Wheat free? It is all covered here! I really love that there is yet another 100% dedicated gluten free cafe in Los Angeles! ❤

As a note, this is a fast style cafe with limited seating so it would be better in very small groups. Nuts are used in many dishes so keep that in mind if you have a nut allergy.

Although we don’t make it to North Hollwood very often, I will definitely be going back the moment we do! Have you visited True Earth Vegan?

**Please note that this review solely reflects my own honest opinion. I was neither paid nor compensated for my visit here. Also, kitchen protocols and menus can change at any time. Make sure to speak to the staff at any restaurant before eating to make sure that they can accommodate your dietary restriction.**
