Gluten Free Philadelphia, Part 7 –Sweet Freedom Bakery

As you all know by now, I LOVE desserts. I basically live off of desserts when I can, so when I find a gluten free bakery, I HAVE to try it. NYC has a ton of bakeries that I am very familiar with and frequent, but I am discovering that Philadelphia has its fair share too! Thankfully, my mom has no problem hunting down gluten free bakeries when I am home for Christmas break. After a long day of doctor’s appointments, I needed something sweet as I was becoming a bit hangry. Low and behold, there is an 100% gluten free bakery only a few miles from my last appointment: Sweet Freedom Bakery.

Sweet Freedom Bakery (http://sweetfreedombakery.com): Located at 1424 South Street, Philadelphia OR 577 Haddon Avenue, Collingwood, NJ, OR 1039 W. Lancaster Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA. Yes, you read that correctly: 3 locations! Sweet Freedom Bakery is 100% gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free, corn-free, peanut-free, refined-sugar-free, and kosher, meaning pretty much any person with a food allergy could eat here!! As a Celiac, I was beyond ectastic to have an entire bakery that is dedicated gluten free (read: no cross contamination!), but I must admit that I was a bit skeptical about everything else that was missing…but I was wrong! This place was fantastic! Look at all of these options.

One of the display cases. YUM!

Cookies and brownies and cupcakes and bagels and donuts…oh my! This bakery has it all. I opted for 2 Boston Creme cupcakes, 1 chocolate dipped strawberry cupcake, 1 chocolate cupcake, 1 donut, and 1 bagel—obviously, I had a hard time deciding!!! My take on these: the cupcakes were delicious! Very moist and flavorful, not crumbling as I worried! My only request, more icing please! The icing was great but there wasn’t too much….then again, I am addicted to icing. 😉 The Boston Creme has icing instead of the normal creme frosting inside so it wasn’t a true Boston Creme, but I would get it again. The chocolate dipped strawberry had jam inside which I was not a fan of, but for someone who likes jam, this is your cupcake for sure! The chocolate cupcake was wonderful!

Another display case! Are you hungry yet?

The staff there was so helpful and friendly. They didn’t seem to mind a hyper 23 year old running around checking out all of the options, which I appreciated. My mom seemed a bit embarrassed though…. Best of all, I loved not having to worry about cross contamination!! 🙂

Smoothie and drink options

Although I came here for the desserts, Sweet Freedom Bakery carries tons of other foods including challah bread, loaves of bread, soups, and speciality desserts. Juices and smoothies are popular there too and I hope to try them next time I go.

Conclusion: If you have Celiac or any of these allergies or choose a lifestyle that minimizes these items, try Sweet Freedom Bakery! You will not regret it! 🙂 Thanks, Sweet Freedom Bakery, for offering fantastic options for us! ❤
