Hello gluten free friends! I just returned to Philly from NYC. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with Ryan and his family and I hope that all of you had a fantastic holiday as well! Although I have tried several more gluten free restaurants in Philly, I am still planning to try a few more before I leave on Monday, so I am going to share a new NYC place with you. Ryan and I started our Thanksgiving festivities with a hearty dinner at Risotteria (see for https://glutenfreeandglittery.com/2015/09/02/gluten-free-nyc-part-4-review-of-risotteria/ a review!) Wednesday night. On Thursday, we had our usual Thanksgiving brunch at Café Luxembourg (see https://glutenfreeandglittery.com/2015/01/04/gluten-free-restaurants-nyc/ for a review!), but unfortunately, their portion sizes appear to have shrunk…so I was quite hungry afterwards. Luckily, we still had time to grab a “second brunch” and Ryan found a crepe place with gluten free crepes within walking distance of Café Luxembourg. We just had to go! Sadly, the crepes were so good that I did not manage to snap a picture of the crepes….
Crepes & Delices (http://crepesanddelices.com): Located at 124 W 72nd St., Crepes & Delices has gluten free crepes derived from buckwheat, which is surprisingly gluten free!!! Before I became too excited, I asked the staff whether they take precautions against cross contamination. Although they do not have a separate crepe heater/grill (not sure on technical word?), they thoroughly scrub down and clean the surface, which is a flat surface so it was easily to clean. When I told them that I have Celiac Disease, they took my concern very seriously and scrubbed down and cleaned the crepe surface in front of me. They also assured me that their batter and all ingredients had separate utensils and are stored separately, preventing cross contamination. If you decide to try this place, remember to explain your allergy/restriction and make sure that you are comfortable with the precautions that they take!!! However, with their careful preparation, I did not get sick at all so I was extremely excited. The crepes themselves were large and the toppings were generous. I had the nutella and banana crepe and would definitely get it again! The crepe itself was filling and hearty and could easily be made savory or sweet! The place is very small and the crepes are made to order. Highly recommend! We will definitely be back in a few weeks. 🙂
Stay tuned for several Philly restaurants….
